Springfield OH : Friday, July 14, 2006
After a one day drive from Ocean City, Five By Design arrived in Springfield, Ohio for the area Art Council's summer concert series at Veterans Park Amphitheatre. The venue was tucked away in a park setting and all the performances were free to the public. The night prior to our performance the Little River Band ("Reminiscing") performed and the evening following our show Joni Collins will take the stage. The weather the day we loaded in was "hot & humid". The afternoon was interrupted by a strong down pour, but cleared off quickly for the evening performance. Tim Powell's band conducted by Willis Delony provided the fine back-up for "Club Swing". At intermission, we received word that a storm was on its way so we did some quick editing of the second half and cut several songs from the show. That ten-minute cut was just enough time to roll the clothes into the dressing area before another downpour hit. Thanks to J. Chris Moore and his wonderful staff for making the performance go smoothly!!

Ocean City Pops Orchestra : July 11-12, 2006
Five By Design travelled to Ocean City NJ for their third appearance on the Music Pier for the Ocean City Pops summer series. The orchestra, conducted, by Bill Scheible has been a tradition since 1929 when the pier was built. Ocean City is a wonderful beachfront community and is a great vacation for the entire family. Walking the boardwalk, taking in the salt water air, and stopping for ice water, taffy, or pizza is a delightful way to spend your vacation. A special thank you to Nona and Ed Dolceamore for being our gracious hosts at the Trade Winds Motel. And of course a big thank you to Willis Delony and Matt Edlund for providing the solid foundation of the rhythm section.

Spokane Symphony : Saturday, May 6, 2006—Five By Design premiered its newest musical retrospective, "Stay Tuned" with the Spokane Symphony. The production was a collaboration of a year's work. The creative team of Lorie Carpenter-Niska, Sheridan Zuther, Kurt Niska, Michael Swedberg, Terry Niska, and 5XD's director Daniel Ellis produced a show that revolved around the television variety show of the fifties and early sixties. "Stay Tuned" combined commercials with a travel segment, appearances by the Pompadours and Taffeta Sisters (Polly & Esther), special guest appearances, and two game shows, "All About You" and "What's that Song"? To give our friends and fans a flavor of the show, I took some pictures of the various costumes during the dress rehearsal. Kurt Cowling and Dave Bayless anchored the rhythm section while Morihiko Nakahara conducted the Spokane Symphony. Congrats to all who contributed to the new show's smashing success!
