Five By Design arrived in Falls Church VA on Saturday and the group kicked back for some serious rest and relaxation before heading to perform with the National Symphony.
Lorie's mom, Carol flew in from Green Bay to take part in the celebration on Saturday. On Sunday, Cathy's husband Trevor flew to D.C. to spend the week with her.
Bright and early Sunday morning, we headed to Arlington via the Metro to see the Arlington Cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier replete with taps and changing of the guard. There was also a monument which paid tribute to the crew of the space shuttle Challenger. Later, we paid our respect to JFK and the eternal flame.
We headed across the Potomac to see the Washington Monument, the newly constructed World War II Memorial which was very poignant since Radio Days and Club Swing reflect that time period. Later, we paid our respects to the Vietnam and Korean memorials. The Lincoln Memorial overlooks the reflecting pool and the day was a wonderful and memorable experience. What a great country we live in! On Tuesday, we headed for the Holocaust Museum and the Museum of American History at the Smithsonian.
